What’s Playing: The Lego Movie 2014

Everything is awesome… in The Lego Movie 2014

What's Playing???

everythingisawesomeLEGOMOVIE2014

Everything is awesome, sing the lego casts of this mood-uplifting film.  Indeed, every thing is awesome in this film.

At first glance, the lego animation seemed uninteresting to me.  They appear unattractive.  I always thought that feel-good animation should be, aside from colorful, beautiful.   Appearance is very important factor in children’s animation.  Beauty and colors should make the film attractive.  Then the story comes in.

But after a few minutes of looking at the lego characters, they become very cute to look at.  And with a lot of humor incorporated in this animation, it’s all awesome.

What I especially like about this animated film is its ever universal theme of every one being special in one’s unique ways and how useful each special character is to one and all.   The message is very clear—master builders, followers, teamwork, following instructions, creating without instructions…what else? To understand what I’m talking…

What’s Playing: The Odd Life of Timothy Green

What's Playing???

vlcsnap-00001

Who is Timothy? Why is he part of the title? Why is his life odd? These questions are some of the reasons I decided to see this  movie (of course, I was prompted by my friend to see it).

It’s not a new film but it has the classic theme of childhood’s short-lived characteristics it will always be a fresh reminder to any individual, much more to parents, about how fleeting childhood is.  Time flies so fast, they say, and so is childhood.  We don’t wanna miss it.  We would want to experience it fully.  We don’t want to be surprised that it’s already gone, just leaving us with whatever memories we have made.  We don’t want Timothy green to just disappear without feeling and really seeing his bright smile, his creativity, his honesty, his love for life, his desire to just have fun.  We don’t want either to just…

What’s Playing: My Sister’s Keepe

What's Playing???

vlcsnap-00002

The screenshot above shows the happy moment shared by this happy family in the movie.  When I first heard of this movie, I thought it is some kind of the serious type that garnered the favors of the critics.  My curiosity finally got me.  Got this file, and voila! totally captivated by the heart of this film. It’s not the serious drama I thought it was. It’s a well-balanced drama of life in a family of impaired individuals who thrive each day, conquering cancer with happy thoughts, battling dyslexia with love for the family, leaving career for the sake of family, holding on for the loved ones, and most especially, battling each day to make everything in their lives normal…and because of trying to be normal, this drama has come into life in the big screen. I love this movie. It’s the kind of movie you will miss watching after seeing other films…

So I Say Thank You For The Music

So I Say Thank You For The Music.

‘I Am Number Four’ Impression

I Am Number Four

It was such a boring day with a friend that I decided to roam around the city.  Seeing a movie was the first option to kill time.  The movies showing on the cinema at that time were actually not the most appealing ones.  I always avoid horror movies because I cannot control my imagination after seeing one. But my company at that time was just like me, so I suggested watching SAW7 for a change.  But we couldn’t dare in the end.  We decided however to have this I Am Number Four because it seemed like a next-to-horror film in the poster.  The thing is, I haven’t been doing background  check about movies for some time now which means I was totally without any idea of what were showing.  So we went in, and finished the whole thing.  So what was it like?  It wasn’t a horror film, to my disappointment.  Not even close to a horror film.   My impression was…I remember twilight.  It was the same feeling I felt watching that Vampire-werewolf movie.  It was so high school.  So it’s cool.  But that’s it.  Of course, the effects were nice.  But story-wise, a serial drama would do more justice to it.

Small and Big Screen Pictures Stuck in My Cerebrum

The Never Ending Story starring Noah Hathaway

This German film was the mother of my inclination to watching fantasy-adventure movies, released in 1984, just a year later after my birth.  But I first saw this in the  ‘Million Dollar Movies’ Show of ABS-CBN in the early 90’s. ( That show was every 9:00 p.m. on Sundays, playing the best movies ever.)  It’s a shame, though,  to say that I didn’t get exactly what the story was about when I watched this.  All that mattered to me then was the sense of excitement created in seeing the unimaginable creatures with three faces, a giant rock biter, a racing snail, a giant turtle that talks, two gigantic female statues with blazing laser in their eyes, a dog-faced white lizard or dragon or whatever creature that was,  the beautiful empress, and handsome ATREYU played by Noah Hathaway when he was just a boy.  It’s really funny because I can hardly remember my age when I saw this, but I have always remembered this line : “Why don’t you do what you dream, Bastian?” “It’s only a story, it’s not real.”

THE NEVERENDING STORY

Casper starring Christina Ricci

I was in sixth grade when this was shown in the cinema, which I reviewed twice, and saw on TV many times.  Still, I never lost interest.  Many girls my age at that time liked it, too because of the human representation of Casper: Devon Sawa.  But it was Christina Ricci that got me.  I thought I wasn’t so obsessed with this movie but I now remember I collected cards and posters of this. LoL.

CASPER: The Friendly Ghost

Power Rangers

I think I had more card collection than the boys my age at 6th grade when this was aired on TV and in the big screen.  The five rangers pink (Kimberly), yellow (Trini), red (Jason), blue (Billy), and black (Zack) plus the green (Tommy) one occupied me before and my memory now.  My favorite part was the moment they transform and start calling their zords: Mastodon (black), Pterodactyl (pink), Triceratops (Blue), Saber-toothed Tiger (yellow), Tyrannosaurus (red), and DragonZord (green).  Then they go with their  POWER BLAST! My favorite ranger? Yellow and green. 🙂

MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS

Titanic Starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo diCaprio

Not very much alike to the previous items on my list here, but this captured my heart as it did to many in 1998.  The highest grossing movie of all time with Celine Dion’s My Heart Will Go On in the background.  Rose and Jack will always be in my heart.

TITANIC

Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks

Ironically, I’m not a fan of Tom Hanks even if I’ve seen without fanatic intentions his movies such as Sleepless in Seattle and Da Vinci Code. But this movie was so moving and I still will be moved if I see it again.  Saw this in a film-viewing session in one of my Psychology classes…and since then, it has made marks in my mind…how could I ever forget the innocence of the imbecile Forrest Gump?

FORREST GUMP

Anak starring Vilma Santos and Claudine Barreto

Philippine blockbuster movie that made my handkerchief soaking wet.  The movie about a family and most importantly mother-daughter relationship.  Only the numb will never shed a tear with this movie…because everybody will be able to identify with and relate to this film.  Those tears were shed for nothing…because this film made it to my list. ^^

ANAK

LOBO starring Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual

Philippine TV series on a love story between a she-werewolf and an ordinary human.  Aired in 2007 at around 9 pm in the evening, this serial fantasy-drama sent me running home after my evening job. Can’t get over yet with this, especially that a sequel to this is also on TV nowadays, which I religiously follow, and which will be in the list, too, eventually: IMORTAL.

LOBO

Boys Over Flower starring Lee Min HO

The Korean version of the famous Japanese and Taiwanese F4 made me go gaga on a sleepless weekend and a few nights in 2010 in the Philippine replay of it.  If you don’t know Gum Jan Di and Gu Jun Pyo, that will make you strange in the Philippines. But if you know more than them, that makes you “stranger”…like me!

BOYS OVER FLOWER

AVATAR starring Sam Worthington

Pandora…the only remaining green planet…with Eywa and the rest of the blue-monkey creatures copied as Avatars…especially that of Jake Sully.  Jake Sully? Well, he’s just the one who had the Avatar that made a difference for the planet so remote and foreign to him. Not so important, if you know that I’m kidding.  Shown in 3D. But I first saw in DVD. Reviewed 4 times.  Seen 2 times in 2D.  And fortunately, I got a chance to see it in iMax 3D!  Not so addicted, right? 2009 desktop background in AVATAR theme…and 2010 Facebook profile picture was the one below. ^^

AVATAR

SlamDunk Animation

A Manga that reached it’s height of fame on the Philippine TV in the late 90’s. Dubbed in Tagalog in the small screen, it kept me hooked every after high school classes.  Not enough.  Bought a DVD and watched it with English subs. Why? Well, Sakuragi San was adorably funny and Rokawa San was just so cute like that of a boy-next-door neighbor type.  What’s more, the story revolves around the favorite game of the Filipinos: Basketball!!!

The Whole Cast of SLAMDUNK (LoL)

Julio at Julia Animation

This was a grade school addiction which challenged my creativity in creating songs that rhymes. Haha. A story about the two children from different parts of the world bound by fate to fulfill a prophecy. (Now I realized that ever since, prophecies are a tool in spinning a story in movies and TV shows.)  Aired in ABS-CBN, my fave local channel, every morning at 10…so how did I ever get to see it when I was in grade school then??? aha! I was attending afternoon classes. Thanks to Philippine educational system.

Julio at Julia: Kambal ng Tadhana

Judy Abbot Animation

Daddy Longlegs!!! How can I forget you and Judy Abbot? Nothing to explain here. Just a name in the list is enough and will stir the emotions I have right at the moment of writing it down here…just as I feel the same emotion when I call a friend aliased as Daddy Longlegs—Lorenzo Caballes. ^^

Judy Abbot

Meteor Garden

Another Addiction way back college days.  Everybody shouts F4~! Dao Ming Seu! San Chai! With the Taiwanese songs in the back ground. Whatever.  This made my college clique F4 and San Chai: F4-Me, Janvielle, Jine, Kikay with Daddy LongLegs Lorenz as San Chai.  Mind you, this group has never been disbanded. Better than the celebrity F4.  But my addiction is with the series, though…coz i don’t have to be addicted with US. ^^

METEOR GARDEN

3 IDIOTS starring Aamir Khan

Hilarious. Dramatic. Romantic. Inspiring. Addictive. For about three hours, I didn’t get bored even for a second watching this Bollywood highest grossing film of all time that was released in 2009.  I was in awe at the beautiful landscapes and advance technologies of India depicted in this film, very different to the usual slum areas I tend to associate with most Indian movie settings.  And oh…the presentation of the story line…they kept me hooked.  In medias res, stream of consciousness, flashbacks.  What a thrill and joy their twists are.  Familiar themes of love and friendship in unpredictable events. WoW! A Pure inspiration and stress-reliever.  I ♥ Rancho…but I enjoy Virus and Silencer more than anybody else in the story. Have seen four times already…and is still excited for another one. ^

3 IDIOTS

Personal Taste Lee Min Ho

Oh my…for four nights straight, I watched this drama.  and right now, it came to my mind…so I have to add it here.  I saw this last year and it still in my gray matter. So it deserves posting here. This movie is cute, romantic, dramatic, and everything.  It was even unpredictable.  The apple was really surprising.  I should have given more attention to it.  I watched it only on youtube…wow, I really made an effort to see it bit by bit. hahaha. that was crazy. But it paid off. I fell in love with this serial drama and with the OST. so here’s a music video of it.
